RIBA London Awards 2023 Winners

RIBA LONDON AWARDS 2023 WINNERS The RIBA has handed London regional awards to 52 projects, including 3 from Neilcott.  We’re delighted to see this year’s winners recognised for this prestigious award. The regional award winners will now be considered for a RIBA National Award ‘in recognition of their architectural excellence’. The results will be announced on 22 June. RIBA president, Simon Allford, said: ‘Winning a RIBA Regional Award is a fantastic achievement. These projects, selected by a rigorous peer review process, represent the very best of the region’s new architecture. Inspiring buildings and spaces bring joy to all our lives, and this year’s award winners certainly fit that bill. Many congratulations to all.’ See the full list of winners here: https://www.architectsjournal.co.uk/news/riba-london-awards-2023-all-52-winners-revealed Read more about our RIBA London Award 2023 Winners below: National Youth Theatre by DSDHA  A vital part of Great Britain’s cultural infrastructure,  architects DSDHA were appointed to help grow the National Youth Theatre (NTY), proposing a radical redevelopment that has enabled the organisation to hugely increase its capacity to provide free and affordable opportunities. It is an honour for Neilcott to have contributed to the specialist development of this important facility. Edith Neville Primary School by Hayhurst and Co  Edith Neville Primary School by Hayhurst & Co Architects is an extremely popular primary school, at the core of Camden’s first phase of regeneration for Somers Town, replacing a dilapidated building that had been in operation since the 1970s. The school is conceived as part of the surrounding parkland landscape and its building and boundary have been thoughtfully designed to extend the park, both physically and in terms of perception. Central Somers Town Community Facilities and housing by Adam Khan Architects As part of the wider regeneration of Central Somers Town, Neilcott was appointed to design and construct a new community hub for local residents. The new facilities have been designed to high quality and sustainability standards, achieving BREEAM and connecting into the Kings Cross Decentralised Energy Network.

Pagabo’s £1bn Refit & Refurb framework

We have some fantastic news to share – Neilcott Construction Limited have secured a place on Pagabo‘s £1bn Refit and Refurb framework, as a core contractor on Lot 3, £1-5m & Lot 4, £5-15m across London & the South East. The framework will run for four years, providing a compliant and collaborative route to market for public sector clients to appoint suppliers through both direct award and further competition processes. We have our dedicated interiors ‘Fit Out’ team in place, who continue to build on our experience within this specialism. Our team of specialists have vast experience within the interiors market, and are focused on our client’s ever evolving workplace/space needs and wants. Expanding our Horizons

In addition to our Orpington head office, we are delighted to announce that we are taking an exciting step to strengthen our geographical coverage around London and the South East by establishing a third regional office, this time in Hertfordshire, to supplement existing bases in Winchester & central London Fit Out division. This strategic northern base will close our reach completely around the capital and the surrounding counties. We have recruited ex-Jarvis CEO, Mark Doyle to set up the new division, which will look to build on the strong reputation of the group – initially established in 1967 with a turnover of circa £100m, working across all typical construction sectors. Group Managing Director, Malcolm Elster commented ‘this represents a positive investment by our group to build upon a well-established offering to our existing and new client base, delivering bespoke, flexible construction solutions across London and the South East, working collaboratively to add value by providing practical construction and cost advice to achieve first class delivery and high levels of customer satisfaction’. The new regional office will focus on new projects across Beds, Bucks, Herts and North London Boroughs and will be established during May 2023.

Delivering social value on every scheme

We deliver social value on every scheme that we take on, tailoring our efforts to best meet client priorities & local needs. Activities range from creating new jobs, procuring labour & materials locally, to a wide range of training & community engagement activities. On our Orange Street site, following on from previous mechanical & electrical student visits, it was the turn of carpentry students, to see how their element of the fit out works progress, from design to on-site installation. We were delighted to host 20 students from London South East Colleges on our Orange Street commercial fit out site, inspiring a new generation of construction professionals. Racing to support mental wellbeing

At our annual Cheltenham race event we were delighted to host an afternoon of networking and racing for some of our client, consultant & architect partners at Balls Brothers, Minsters Court. Always seeking ways to support our nominated charities of the year, the event included a raffle, with prizes kindly donated by our longstanding subcontractors. Neilcott matched raffle ticket sales, allowing us to donate £756 to Mates in Mind. Mates in Mind is a construction focused UK charity, raising awareness & addressing the stigma of poor mental health – helping to promote the development of positive mental wellbeing in the workplace. RIBA London Award 2023 nominations

We are delighted to see a bumper crop of schemes that we have constructed being nominated for this year’s RIBA London Awards. Our teams always enjoy working in partnership with architects, technical designers, clients and wider stakeholders to bring architectural visions to life and create inspirational new spaces for local people. Central Somers Town Community Facilities and housing by Adam Khan Architects Part of Camden’s Community Investment Programme, Neilcott was appointed as Principal Contractor to oversee design and build activities on the first two of the Central Somers Town Regeneration masterplan’s four development phases. This included Somers Town Community Hub, a construction of a six-storey building, housing a children’s nursery and community play facility on the ground floor, with 10 affordable housing units above. Edith Neville Primary School by Hayhurst and Co  Part two of the Central Somers Town Regeneration, involved the construction of the new two-storey Edith Neville Primary School. This included the demolition of the adjacent existing school, a new playground and MUGA pitch put in and associated landscaping works. National Youth Theatre by DSDHA   Part of a major renovation to the National Youth Theatre’s Holloway Road building in North London, this essential upgrade by award-winning architects DSDHA enhances facilities to create a National Creative Production House. Sandpit Place by PETER BARBER ARCHITECTS LIMITED  Within this residential development consisting of 32 new houses, we worked closely with the project’s original architect Peter Barber and client, Meridian Home Start, to provide high-quality affordable homes to rent, for local working families.

Getting stuck into our latest Newham project!

Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz OBE was on site at the Shipman Youth Zone as demolition began ahead of exciting redevelopment plans. The new space, set to open in 2024, will offer a broader range of services for Newham families and young people. It will include a range of offers from sports to healthy eating, and an outdoor classroom, giving young people from an urban area the opportunity to learn in immersive, safe and creative outdoor environment. The Shipman Youth Zone will be a highly sustainable new asset for the community, set to achieve BREEAM Outstanding. Pagabo

Pelier Street wins @ LABC Grand Finals!

Pelier Street wins Best Small Social Housing Development at the LABC Grand Finals! We are delighted to announce that our Pelier Street project was amongst the 24 winners at the LABC Grand Final Awards 2022. The project involved the construction of a seven-storey residential development containing 17 dwellings for social rent and was chosen by a panel of construction industry experts to win the category for Best Small Social Housing Development. Lorna Stimpson, LABC Chief Executive said ‘These awards reflect LABC’s new focus on skills, quality, and competency and showcase the best projects, people and teams working in construction from a technical compliance perspective’.  We would like to congratulate W Griffith Architects and everyone who was involved in making this project such a phenomenal success.

Pagabo Medium Works framework success

Pagabo Medium Works framework success We are delighted to be re-appointed to the 2nd iteration of the Pagabo Medium Works framework. Our Business Development Director, Mark Bone, attended a Launch Workshop on Wednesday to kick off the new framework, which will run until 2027 and provide a compliant, collaborative route to market for public sector clients to procure medium-sized construction projects valued up to £10m. We’re active across London & the South East on Lot 3 £1-5m and Lot 4 £5-10m, where clients can procure best value, sustainable construction solutions with us quickly and easily via direct award, as well as via competitive framework mini-competition. We fully support the Pagabo team’s drive to improve mental health within the sector and look forward to continuing our social value delivery through our framework projects.

Brick Award Win for Fred Styles House!

The Brick Development Association showcase the exemplary clay brick architecture at their annual Brick Awards.  We are pleased to announce that our Fred Styles House project in Greenwich won the Architects’ Choice Award!  The judges said of the project: ‘a masterclass of working the humble brick – with such finesse and artistry!  Sculptural, whimsical, bold and well-articulated architecture – these homes sit very well on site – with clever and sensitive referencing to the verticality of the nearby church tower’’. We are extremely proud to be associated with this prestigious award and would like to congratulate all those involved including Peter Barber Architects, L&R Brickwork and Forterra Plc.  Brick Award Win for Fred Styles House!
