With a long-standing relationship with GDST (The Girls’ Day School Trust) following the delivery of many new build and refurbishment schemes, including Brighton Girls, Bromley High School GDST and Wimbledon High School GDST, we are delighted to be delivering a new junior school at Notting Hill & Ealing High School GDST using a highly sustainable cross laminated timber construction (CLT) method. We recently celebrated a milestone ‘topping out’ event at Notting Hill and Ealing High School, signifying the completion of the new junior school structure. The new building will provide 14 classrooms, specialist teaching facilities for music, art, science and IT, a library and hall with performance seating, along with external space for a science garden, forest school area and dedicated play space for reception pupils. The scheme, which has a strong emphasis on sustainability, will achieve net-zero carbon through the use of a CLT frame, south facing panels to capture sunlight and supply electricity, heat pumps and a heat recovery system. The fit out of the new school will now progress in earnest with completion of the scheme in Autumn 2023.

Following recent interactions with London South East Colleges (LSEC) Bromley Campus on our Orange Street site, our Social Value Manager Jenny Bignell was invited to attend an Employers Skills and Curriculum event with College Lecturers and Heads of Department for STEM courses, including Carpentry, Bricklaying and Built Environment. We discussed the adequacy of existing curriculum and units offered within the Construction and Built Environment, suggesting proposals to further enhance the learning provision and ready students for the workplace, such as covering different contract forms and design criteria for developments as part of the T-Level Qualification in Design, Surveying and Planning. Sustainability was also a key focus, discussing the new ‘Sustainability Hub’ at the Bromley Campus which will provide a practical learning space for students in the installation of sustainable technologies and materials, including Solar PV, Electric Vehicle Chargers and Air Source Heat Pumps. We agreed visibility of such technologies and sustainable strategies in a live environment is critical to student learning and understanding of the ever-growing importance of sustainable construction, as such we confirmed our willingness to offer site tours to LSEC students on our live sites to showcase varying sustainable measures in operation. As a committed contractor to the learning and development of the future generation, we are keen to grow our relationship with LSEC and will continue to offer LSEC students work experience opportunities, tours of live construction sites and factory manufacturing workshops to support the curriculum, providing a real insight into the world of construction and enabling students to put their theory into practice.  A big part of what we do is taking part in community engagement and upskilling a new generation of construction workers. We love supporting work experience opportunities and giving young people a chance to see why we love what we do. We recently enjoyed showing around the brilliant electrical, mechanical and plumbing students from London South East Colleges for them to gain a closer insight.

It was a delight to take 9 pupils (aged 5-11) from nearby Uplands Primary School on a site-tour of our Fareham Live project. Formerly known as Ferneham Hall, the town’s beloved entertainment hub and events venue opened in 1982 & has shown many music, comedy and theatre shows over the decades. With demolition of the original building now complete, the brand new Fareham Live, a state-of-the-art venue with an 800-seat auditorium, second smaller performance space, studio space and café/bar, is starting to take shape, with the steel frame currently nearing completion The new facility is part of a wider Fareham Civic Quarter redevelopment masterplan, which includes demolishing the adjacent Osborn Road car park to make way for a new ground level car park that better meets the needs of today’s users. As part of our ongoing social value and local community engagement activities, we arranged for some local Uplands Primary School pupils to visit the site in person, where they could see the ongoing brickwork, ground works, scaffolding and preparation for concrete floors. The tour enabled discussions around site safety and project progression, with the aim of inspiring a new generation of young people to follow a career in construction.

It’s exciting to see our new regional office in Hemel Hempstead come to life. This will expand and strengthen our presence around the capital and the surrounding counties, allowing us to better service the Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire areas. ACHIEVING CARBON NEUTRAL HOMES https://neilcott.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Frampton-Road-3.mp4 FRAMPTON ROAD We are proud to have assisted the London Borough of Hounslow in developing 13 highly sustainable new homes at Frampton Road, contributing to their Social Housing Decarbonisation Scheme which is helping to lift hundreds of residents out of fuel poverty and deliver on the Council’s commitment to becoming net zero by 2030. Split across two blocks, Dove Court & Seabird Court, this net zero carbon project provides high quality homes for social rent for people on a range of incomes, as well as shared ownership opportunities. The development consists of 8x 2 bed & 5x 3 bed light, modern & airy apartments, with one wheelchair accessible home. Emitting at least 100.26% less carbon dioxide (CO2), this reduction is achieved, and the buildings’ general environmental performance improved through adoption of: Enhanced insulation standards, improved lighting and heating efficiencies Installation of photovoltaic solar panels – converting the sun’s energy into electricity Use of air source heat pumps – which extracts heat from the air to heat your home Highly efficient ventilation systems – minimising energy loss “Hounslow is leading the way on tackling the climate emergency and this pioneering project aims to deliver warm, energy-efficient homes, reduce carbon emissions, tackle fuel poverty, and support green jobs.” – Councillor Katherine Dunne, Deputy Leader of Hounslow Council and Cabinet Member for Climate, Environment and Transport Strategy.

RIBA LONDON AWARDS 2023 WINNERS The RIBA has handed London regional awards to 52 projects, including 3 from Neilcott.  We’re delighted to see this year’s winners recognised for this prestigious award. The regional award winners will now be considered for a RIBA National Award ‘in recognition of their architectural excellence’. The results will be announced on 22 June. RIBA president, Simon Allford, said: ‘Winning a RIBA Regional Award is a fantastic achievement. These projects, selected by a rigorous peer review process, represent the very best of the region’s new architecture. Inspiring buildings and spaces bring joy to all our lives, and this year’s award winners certainly fit that bill. It is an honour for Neilcott to have contributed to the specialist development of this important facility. Edith Neville Primary School by Hayhurst and Co  Edith Neville Primary School by Hayhurst & Co Architects is an extremely popular primary school, at the core of Camden’s first phase of regeneration for Somers Town, replacing a dilapidated building that had been in operation since the 1970s. The school is conceived as part of the surrounding parkland landscape and its building and boundary have been thoughtfully designed to extend the park, both physically and in terms of perception. Central Somers Town Community Facilities and housing by Adam Khan Architects As part of the wider regeneration of Central Somers Town, Neilcott was appointed to design and construct a new community hub for local residents. The new facilities have been designed to high quality and sustainability standards, achieving BREEAM and connecting into the Kings Cross Decentralised Energy Network. 

We have some fantastic news to share – Neilcott Construction Limited have secured a place on Pagabo‘s £1bn Refit and Refurb framework, as a core contractor on Lot 3, £1-5m & Lot 4, £5-15m across London & the South East. The framework will run for four years, providing a compliant and collaborative route to market for public sector clients to appoint suppliers through both direct award and further competition processes. We have our dedicated interiors ‘Fit Out’ team in place, who continue to build on our experience within this specialism. Our team of specialists have vast experience within the interiors market, and are focused on our client’s ever evolving workplace/space needs and wants. In addition to our Orpington head office, we are delighted to announce that we are taking an exciting step to strengthen our geographical coverage around London and the South East by establishing a third regional office, this time in Hertfordshire, to supplement existing bases in Winchester & central London Fit Out division. This strategic northern base will close our reach completely around the capital and the surrounding counties. We have recruited ex-Jarvis CEO, Mark Doyle to set up the new division, which will look to build on the strong reputation of the group – initially established in 1967 with a turnover of circa £100m, working across all typical construction sectors. Group Managing Director, Malcolm Elster commented ‘this represents a positive investment by our group to build upon a well-established offering to our existing and new client base, delivering bespoke, flexible construction solutions across London and the South East, working collaboratively to add value by providing practical construction and cost advice to achieve first class delivery and high levels of customer satisfaction’.
