The gift of giving has truly started at Neilcott today, with our staff donating new toys and gifts to the Ambition Aspire Achieve and Kevin Jenkins OBE Charity Christmas Toy Appeal. The charity helps to support thousands of families in London Borough of Newham, which have been significantly impacted by the cost of living crisis and are now considered to be living in poverty. We are delighted to support such a great cause and hope our donations ease the financial pressure of families in Newham, whilst spreading some much needed Christmas Joy!

We recently had the chance to meet and onboard new SMEs at the Meet the Buyer East London event at Stratford Stadium. Represented by Business Development Director Mark Bone and Social Value Manager Jenny Bignell .

As an approved contractor appointed to the Procure Partnerships Framework, our Social Value Manager Jenny Bignell, attended the London and South Collaborative Working Group to engage and collectively deliver an assigned social value theme with other appointed contractors. Our theme is Onboarding SMEs. We acknowledge the vital services SMEs provide within the construction industry and will be keen to further development our efforts to drive engagement and the successful onboarding of such organisations. Working with CARMELCREST and Tom Prichard Consulting, we have compiled our initial ideas and will continue to work together to coordinate impactful initiatives which support the growth and development of SMEs, with completion of our theme by October 2024.

Site visits are an important part of the social value we deliver on our projects. It was great to have the opportunity to take a group with ADP Architecture around our Portico site to see the progress and inform them of our approach to working with a historic structure. The Grade II listed building will provide high quality primary, community and social care services with the completed faculty achieving a BREEAM rating of Excellent.

Wonderful photos of the ribbon cutting at the opening ceremony of our recently completed YMCA Wimbledon project. We love taking a closer look at the intricate details in the design of this important building. Aside from a beautifully designed building, #YMCA residents and the Wimbledon community will also benefit from new and improved affordable facilities, including a gym, bigger studio space for fitness classes, a children’s area and a brand-new YMCA café.

Excellent 45/45 CCS Score for Alfred Place What a delight it is to share with you our recent CCS Score for our City of London Corporation‘s Tottenham Court Road 12 Alfred Place site. Receiving an Excellent score of 45/45 – congratulations to Head of Fit Out Andy Greenway, Project Manager Chris Rooney & the whole team on securing full points in all areas of the Considerate Constructors Scheme report. Activity we have conducted on site has included supporting the local community through the dog walking bowl, providing a space for rough sleepers to use overnight and working with merchants to reduce the level of plastic packaging entering our site. All of which has contributed to such a brilliant score. The project delivers two floors of strip out to CAT A installation of approx. 12,000 sq. ft and a bespoke acoustic floor solution. Based in a busy London location, we are especially considerate of the movement of traffic and the safety of pedestrians, keeping good channels of communication open with all stakeholders and the community.

Big congratulations to the National Youth Theatre, award-winning architects DSDHA and the whole project team involved in enhancing facilities at the NYT to create a National Creative Production House. We are proud to see the scheme selected for the 2023 Dezeen Awards #SustainableRenovation Longlist, for its progressive strides in transforming the previously unloved building, in terms of visibility, accessibility and long-term sustainability. In upgrading the National Youth Theatre, the structure of the building has been retained, with the design meeting RIBA and LETI 2030 targets for embodied carbon at 209.47 KgCO2eq/m2. This was achieved by reusing 90% of the existing superstructure and foundations. The exposed surfaces of the existing structure, including the soffit of the theatre space, also help to moderate internal temperature. New materials were chosen for their low embodied carbon and durability, and to extend the building lifespan. The new entrance pavilion is made of durable green glazed bricks that sit sympathetically to the original brickwork and enhance the setting of mature Norway maple trees. Annual CO2/m2 emissions are also reduced by 32% from 79.8kgCO2/m2 to 54.4kgCO2/m2 per annum. This was achieved by buffering the front of the existing building with the new insulated pavilion; adding secondary glazing in rehearsal and theatre spaces; switching from gas-fired to electric VRV; and upgrading the efficiency of lighting and services controls. CCS 44/45 at Shipman Youth Zone A very well done to our Site Manager Mike Forde and the whole team at our LB Newham Shipman Youth Zone scheme for going above and beyond to score a fantastic CCS score of 44/45 – Excellent rating! The CCS auditor praised the team for their social value commitments on the scheme which include formal apprenticeships and a range of valuable work placements and inclusive work experience on-site for students with disabilities, as well as a range of other local school/college engagement activities, local employment and spend commitments. Responsible procurement, environmental, waste and carbon monitoring are in place to achieve the scheme’s targeted BREEAM Outstanding rating. All of our sites are registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme and our site team take great care to abide by its Code of Considerate Practice. We monitor our success in this regard as an operational KPI and are proud to consistently achieve high scores (typically 42/45+) across our projects due to the dedication of all our staff. Pagabo

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has announced the shortlist for the coveted 2023 RIBA Stirling Prize. The prize is awarded to the UK’s best new building, and we are thrilled that one of our two Central Somers Town regeneration projects has been selected for this prestigious shortlist. Part of London Borough of Camden’s Community Investment Programme, the community facilities and housing scheme in Somers Town is a regenerative, transformative intervention that brings much needed homes and active space to an overcrowded corner of inner London. The Central Somers Town Community Hub involved the design and construction of a six-storey building housing a children’s nursery and community play facility on the ground floor, with 10 affordable housing units above. This BREEAM Excellent scheme has innovative sustainability credentials, including connection to the Kings Cross decentralised district heating network, which supports the Borough’s carbon and energy reduction initiatives in-line with the London Plan, as well as ensuring affordability for residents.
