Project Completion: Maple & Poplar Completion

News & Views Project Completion: Maple & Poplar Back to news & views We are excited to share completion photos of Maple & Poplar, a fantastic scheme for the London Borough of Hillingdon. Following on from our demolition of the vacant Maple & Poplar Day Centre, we provided design & construction of two 3-storey blocks, comprising of 34 affordable units. The block faces an internal courtyard with a user-friendly space, including parking, pathways and landscape improvements. The scheme has been designed in a way which is sensitive to the existing green areas, and we have used a restricted palette of low maintenance materials, including brick, cladding & UPVC windows, which have all been incorporated within the design so that over time the development is enhanced – as these materials will naturally improve with age. The Neilcott team, including our Contracts Manager Mark Shambrook, Business Development Director Mark Bone & Hemel Hempstead Regional Director Mark Doyle attended the opening event and are pictured here with London Borough of Hillingdon Councillor Eddie Lavery who is Cabinet Member for Residents Services; Head of Capital Programme Works Services Michael Naughton ; Corporate Director of Place Karrie Whelan & John Rowan and Partners Director Trevor Greenhalgh & Quantity Surveyor Byron Ho.

Virtual Work Experience with LDEUTC

As part of our ongoing commitment to inspiring the next generation of construction professionals, we introduced our Virtual Work Experience project to both years 9 and 10 at London Design and Engineering UTC on World Youth Skills Day. Students designed, modeled and presented their proposals for a new sustainable community hub to Neilcott representatives. This activity, delivered over 4 days, enabled students to expand their knowledge of the construction industry, explore their creativity skills, whilst also further developing vital employability skills, including teamwork, communication, problem solving and time management. Our Social Value Manager, Jenny Bignell, and Assistant Design Manager, Rohan Randhawa, were in attendance to introduce the project brief and support students with their initial ideas. With the facilities on offer at LDEUTC and the exceptional work ethic and ability of its students, initial ideas were of an exceptional standard, with many producing 3D digital models!      “We were delighted to be able to develop and support LDEUTC and its students with a bespoke virtual experience project, providing an insight into the world of construction, in terms of sustainability, construction forms, roles/responsibilities and landscaping.” – Neilcott Construction Limited Ltd Social Value Manager Jenny Bignell. “Thanks to Neilcott for providing such a comprehensive experience of the construction process, where learners had the opportunity to learn about key roles in the industry whilst truly expressing their creativity!” – London Design and Engineering UTC Read More

CCS x Learn Live News Channel

Neilcott are proud to have taken part in last weeks inaugural Work Experience Week, a joint scheme by Considerate Constructors Scheme, Learn Live News Channel and Built Environment Academy. Our Project Manager, Mike Jameson MCIOB signed up to the scheme with CCS, working alongside our Social Value Manager, Jenny Bignell and Sustainability & Social Value Co-ordinator Faye Stapleton, to host and deliver hands-on industry experience and mentorship to students from Ravenswood School. Mentoring x4 year 12 students  to develop and progress their assigned Highways Project, which comprised planning, costing and designing part of a new road in England. Students attended our site at Churchill Court to develop a greater understanding of the construction environment and associated roles, whilst also accessing in person expert/technical advice from designated Neilcott mentors to support the development of their project. Working with our mentors over the course of the week, students considered all aspects of project planning and delivery, including traffic management, costings, sustainability, and social value, with their confirmed selection compiled within a presentation for presenting to CCS. The Ravenswood students came 4th place out of 11, with their presentation considered very robust and well thought out. Thank you to Considerate Constructors Scheme for enabling us to be part of such a great scheme, inspiring the next generation to consider construction related careers.
