News & Views Civic Trust Award Regional Finalist: Shipman Youth Zone Back to news & views We are delighted to share that our Shipman Youth Zone project for London Borough of Newham has been selected as a 2025 Selwyn Goldsmith Awards for Universal Design: Regional Finalist.  Established in 2011, the Selwyn Goldsmith Awards celebrate places that are responsive, flexible, welcoming, easy to use and occupy, allowing all to use with dignity and equality. To be considered, projects are required to have gone beyond the building regulations as a minimum, using best practice guidance, putting people at the heart of the project, and showing exemplar design. Regional Finalists are schemes which have demonstrated a significant standard of universal design in their region, contributing to the quality and appearance of the built environment and providing a positive civic contribution. To be selected as a Regional Finalist for such an award, is truly an honour and a testament to the planning and intention put in from our project team, Architects Rivington Street Studio, our subcontractors & SYZ stakeholders. ➡️ The Shipman Youth Zone is a car-free, zero carbon, high-quality, co-produced youth offer that provides a varied and inclusive range of activities for young people aged between 9 and 19. ➡️ The cross laminated timber building features facilities for music production, cooking, fitness, film and art specialisms; all centred around a double-height multi-functional hub. ➡️ The building has achieved BREEAM Outstanding and features an extensive photo-voltaic array on the roof and a battery bank, with a highly performing airtight envelope, all contributing to the sustainability of the scheme. News & Views Spreading Holiday Cheer with Neilcott Back to news & views This year, the Neilcott team embraced the festive spirit by celebrating Christmas Jumper Day in support of Save the Children UK. Our staff also volunteered their time to join us at our Christmas Wrapping Station to have some festive snacks & wrap gifts for the residents of Priory Mews Care Home, spreading joy and warmth to those who deserve it most this holiday season.  A big thank you to everyone who joined in, donned their best Christmas jumpers, and helped make this initiative a success. Together, we’re making a difference – one wrapped present at a time. 

News & Views Inspiring the Next Generation of Construction Professionals Back to news & views Our Social Value Manager Jenny Bignell visited Year 1 Design, Surveying & Planning T-Level Students at London South East Colleges to share an insightful company overview exploring some of our exciting projects at Neilcott & the diverse career paths available in construction. We also hosted x3 Year 2 Design, Surveying & Planning T-Level Students for their industry placement. At Neilcott we always enjoy the opportunity to inspire the next generation of the construction industry, whether it’s through supporting placements, facilitating site tours or visiting students & delivering workshops.

News & Views East Ham Education Links Site Tour Back to news & views We thoroughly enjoyed showing some of the pupils and their teachers from East Ham Education Links around site, where we are building a new single-storey classroom for London Borough of Newham. Education Links offers an alternative provision of education, and their aim is to work with students in such a way as to engage them in the process of learning, catering for their emotional, intellectual and social needs. Deeply embedded in the schools philosophy, is that all young people have talents and can succeed, and Neilcott are proud to have been able to facilitate a site tour for students to educate and inspire them on the different career paths available within the construction industry. We always value the opportunity to show end-users around the spaces we are building for them, so that they can see the progress happening within their local area and have the chance to peak behind the scenes. Green Roofs are just one of the many sustainable design features that we integrate on our sites. Did you know green roofs, also known as living roofs can:✅ Reduce daily energy demand for air conditioning in the summer by up to 70%. Keeping buildings cooler in summer and warmer in winter!✅ Help manage stormwater by retaining 40-90% of rainfall.✅ Trap dust and pollutants and convert CO2 to produce oxygen – plants are nature’s air filters! A study has shown that green roofs reduce up to 37% of sulphur dioxide and 0.2kg of dust particles per square meter each year.✅ Provide habitats for wildlife, enhancing urban biodiversity & supporting ecosystems. News & Views Forest Gate Community School Aspirations Day Back to news & views Our Social Value Manager, Jenny Bignell, thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at the Aspirations Day at Forest Gate Community School, providing essential knowledge and skills related to employability and the world of work to its Year 10 students. Students learnt the importance of first impressions, how to structure and write a compelling CV and appropriate interview etiquette.
